Friday, December 2nd 2011: HIV/AIDS

On the occasion of the World HIV Day, Helem meeting on Friday, December 2nd 2011 will tackle the topic of HIV/AIDS, we will display the 2011 figures in Lebanon published by the Lebanese National AIDS Program showing numbers of new cases, age distribution, in addition to an overview of the virus and how it is spread and how to avoid infection. This meeting will be followed by a series of weekly meetings, dealing with the topics of sexually transmitted infections, stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV, in addition to their rights in all fields (Health services, work ....).

Starting next week, Thursdays’ weekly meetings will be moved to Fridays!
Please note that the next meeting is on Friday 25th of November 2011 at 6:30 P.M. instead of Thursday.

International HIV/AIDS day activities

On the occasion of the first of December, International HIV/AIDS day, Helem organizes many activities starting from the end of this month and for the weeks to come.
This year goal is to reach zero number of new infections and to fight stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
We will be raising awareness on HIV/AIDS through outreach work in several areas, pubs and night clubs in Beirut. We will be distributing publications and prevention materials related to sexual health.

Thursday 19th of October 2011: Coming out

Tomorrow 20th of October 2011 will tackle the issue of coming out. We will discuss the parents, friends and family reaction when they are told. We will also discuss the importance of not outing people and the importance of protecting our personal information.

This week meeting on Thursday 29th of September 2011 will address the issue of Communication. We will talk about the elements of communication and its different forms. We also will discuss the problems that happen in the process of communication and their consequences.
