Introduction
The Lebanese labor code, adopted in 1946, remains outdated and inadequate in addressing the needs of vulnerable communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals. Despite some reforms, such as gender equality provisions and the criminalization of sexual harassment, the labor code fails to protect marginalized groups from discrimination in the workplace. LGBTQ+ people, along with women, refugees, and migrant workers, continue to face discriminatory practices, including unsafe work environments, unequal pay, and limited job opportunities. The ongoing economic crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and high unemployment rates have further exacerbated these challenges for the LGBTQ+ community, with many individuals relying on humanitarian assistance or informal sector jobs. The lack of legal protections and fear of retaliation have led to underreporting of workplace discrimination and abuse, particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals.
