Introduction
The ongoing crises in Lebanon, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Beirut blast, and the economic recession, have severely impacted vulnerable and marginalized communities, particularly the LGBTQ+ community. The collapse of the Lebanese Pound, increased scarcity of basic goods, and political instability have exacerbated the socio-economic hardships faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, who already suffer from endemic violence and discrimination. This report highlights the compounded challenges LGBTQ+ people have faced in Lebanon in 2021, including job losses, lack of housing, and limited access to healthcare. Helem’s documentation efforts aim to shed light on the growing number of human rights violations and provide insights into the urgent need for systemic change.
